Which SUV is Better: Ford Explorer or Jeep Grand Cherokee?
November 20 2024
Fayetteville Ford Fayetteville GA

The 2025 Ford Explorer SUV is offered in four trims and provides exceptional versatility at competitive prices. The 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV has a slightly larger lineup and is known for its legendary off-road capabilities.

Powertrain

The Ford Explorer has a 2.3-liter engine block, generating 300 horsepower at 5,500 RPM. Carrying the proprietary EcoBoost engineering, the standard I-4 engine produces 310 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 RPM. This cast-aluminum engine compresses gasoline at a 10:1 ratio. The Grand Cherokee can’t get more than 293 hp from the 3.6-L Pentastar engine. Backed up by more than a decade of signature engineering, this V-6 engine uses natural aspiration for combustion. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard on this premium Jeep SUV. You’ll get a standard 10-speed automatic gearbox on the Explorer. Producing up to 400 hp, the 3.0-L EcoBoost engine is available on this Ford SUV. Compressing fuel at 9.5:1, the V-6 engine yields 415 lb-ft of torque. This twin-turbo powerhouse includes Compacted Graphite Iron parts. Creating a final drive ratio of 3.31, a non-slip rear axle is paired with the six-cylinder engine. The Explorer also has the Terrain Management System for extra off-road versatility. You can try six different driving modes for the Intelligent AWD system, including Hill Descent Control. Despite having the Select-Terrain TMS, the Grand Cherokee doesn’t offer as many custom driving modes. However, this renowned Jeep model offers several 4×4 drive systems for tackling rugged landscapes.

Technology

The Explorer has a 12.3-inch LCD Productivity Screen with various digital menus. You’ll also get a 13.2-inch multimedia display on the center stack. The latest SYNC firmware is integrated into the infotainment system. You’ll even get 5G LTE Wi-Fi connections from the signature FordPass Connect portal. Made by Bang & Olufsen, 14 speakers are optional on this three-row Ford SUV. You’ll pay more for the Grand Cherokee’s 19-speaker audio system from McIntosh. This Jeep model includes a standard infotainment display that measures just 10.1 inches. The patented Uconnect 5 operating system provides a variety of digital applications for safe and productive driving.

Amenities

The Explorer is available with leather-appointed front seats, which have the Miko inserts. Ventilation and heating are available for these posh first-row seats. This Ford SUV also offers heated second-row seats. Families will get valuable utility from the PowerFold third-row seats. Likewise, the E-Z Entry technology enhances the captain’s chairs in the second row. Having a 35/30/35 design, a split-folding bench seat is available in the middle row. You won’t get as many versatile seating options inside the Grand Cherokee. However, this Jeep model still offers leather-trimmed seats with climate control. Some of the Explorer’s other useful amenities include cargo hooks and the Cargo Management System.
